We’re going to the White House and we want to bring you with us!

The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, for the first time, has been invited to the White House LGBT Pride Reception, but we don’t want to go alone!

Jessica Stern, Acting Executive Director, will attend the reception and she wants to bring your perspectives, opinions, critiques and stories with her.

For the next five days, we’ll be asking you questions on facebook (fb.com/iglhrc) and twitter (@iglhrc) such as: If you could tell President Obama one way he could help you work for LGBT rights globally, what would you say?

Jessica will hand deliver a message to the White House on Friday!

Share your thoughts in the comments or by email at iglhrc@iglhrc.org.

Follow along on facebook and twitter for more questions throughout the week.

Monday: If you could tell President Obama one way he could help you work for LGBT rights, globally, what would you say?

Tuesday: Is it possible for President Obama and Secretary Clinton to help promote LGBT rights in your country?

Wednesday: What is one thing President Obama and Secretary Clinton should NOT do when promoting LGBT rights internationally?

Thursday: Who is one leader or government official in your country that President Obama should talk to about LGBT rights?

Friday: Will President Obama’s support of LGBT human rights globally help or hurt his re-election campaign?

  2. I will really be glad if Obama can help improve access to health care services for Gay men in Nigeria and also help in working with Nigerian goverment in making the country safe for Gay men in Nigeria

  3. President Obama and Secretary Clinton are not only leading America, but the rest of the world. Every country and person looks to America as a leader, and it is consequently America’s duty to lead the world in the “right” way. Obama needs to reach out to leaders of other countries and share with them why he supports the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples and why he is so passionate about the gay rights movement. Even just few weeks after Obama voiced his support for the freedom to marry, more Americans are following in his footsteps and supporting marriage equality! Imagine what Obama and Clinton could accomplish if they reached out to the rest of the world? “Be on the right side of change,” Senator Clinton tells us, but we can’t have this change without Obama and Clinton’s promoting LGBT rights not only in the US but around the world.

  4. Michael and Anthony, thank you for the feedback!

  5. We the Ethiopian LGBT community want President Barak Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to tell to our Prime minster Meles Zenawi and his government, tell them to stop supporting the mad religious leaders who are urging the government for death sentence for homosexuality. The government must emphasis on humanistic not on the political aspect of LGBTs human right and social justice in Ethiopia!!!

We also want to convince the Ethiopian government to re frame the national HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategies to include MSM as a target groups to allow them access equal health information, service and ART drugs based on their life style and needs.

We also urgently want President Barak Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to give direction to the US embassy in Ethiopia to be supportive to the grass root LGBT human right efforts, because at this they are not cooperative and supportive to our efforts.

This is the video of a press conference held by some government officials, strong religious and many civil society organizations to urge the government and public for death penalty to any homosexual acts. http://www.diretube.com/united-for-life-ethiopia/ethiopian-religious-leaders-call-for-death-penalty-for-homosexuality-video_d43e3bf74.html
